The Physiology Undergraduate Program was selected by the review committee to receive this award “in recognition of its outstanding accomplishments in teaching and its dedication to promoting academic rigor and research-based study at the undergraduate level.” The award provides $25,000 per year for three consecutive years. Funds are to be used for the betterment of the departmental program.

The Physiology Major is the only undergraduate program in the College of Medicine, and is one of less than ten such programs in the United States. The instructional culture of the Department is intellectually stimulating, academically rigorous, research-based, and student-centered, providing many opportunities inside and outside of the classroom for students to collaborate with their colleagues, get to know their faculty, and share research.

The Physiology Department faculty and staff work as a team to provide instruction, advising, and support services that create a community in which students flourish. The dramatic increase in the number of majors in the last five years—from 460 to nearly 900—testifies to the Department’s excellence and the reputation of the program.
