Professor Nick Delamere, Head of the Department of Physiology, was elected
president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
Founded in 1928, ARVO is the largest and most highly respected vision research
organization in the world. The society serves an international membership of
close to 12,500 clinical and basic vision researchers in 73
countries. Among its
many activities, the society organizes conferences in the U.S.A. and Asia,
publishes scientific journals and provides education and professional
development opportunities for clinical and basic scientists. In the U.S.A.,
ARVO plays an important advocacy role, working to educate legislators on the
importance of increased funding and broader support for vision research.
