Adoption of the motto “PHYSIOLOGY FORWARD” for the Physiology Department’s 2027
campaign provides an appropriate occasion to recognize important historical events in the
history of the University of Arizona’s Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine-
Tucson. The Department was founded 60 years ago, in 1967, as one of the original
departments in the College of Medicine. In 1997, 30 years ago, the undergraduate physiology
major joined the Department after several previous years of growth as the exercise science
major.
